Fortunate Me

I am truly a fortunate person. I have a wonderful family. They have always supported me even when I have done stupid things. But let's make this perfectly clear up front - buying this house is NOT a stupid thing. It is probably one of the smartest things I have ever done.

I am fortunate in that I have truly wonderful friends. Jo and Fred and Tammy are helping me move the storage unit which contains the majority of what I need to set up in the house (or put away). Alma and Amy are helping me pack and move.

And what can I say about Susan? She really is the sister I never had. She has encouraged me every step of the way. She has made me believe that I truly deserve this house and the happiness I will have. She has had faith in me when I had none in myself.

But you know I am finding I am fortunate in ways that you might not think. My repairman is charging me $5/hr. less than his usual rate because I'm a first time homeowner and as a favor to Susan. My cleaning is being done by people who are friends of Susan's and who usually do commerical cleaning. A friend of mine who is an attorney has a husband who is an electrician and he cleared time on his schedule today to take care of the few minor things my repairman could not.

I turn around and there is alway someone willing to help me make a better life for myself. And I want to cry because I am so fortunate to have so many wonderful people in my life. People who want the best for me. I do not know how I can ever thank them except to live life and be happy and always treasure their love, their help, their kindness. I hope they understand how grateful I am for all of their doings on my behalf.

I believe in being a good friend to everyone. I don't expect anything in return. For me it's always been and always will be the Golden Rule - Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You. I try not to be mean. Even when I want to be.

David has not been nice about any of this and yet I still try to be nice to him. I understand why he's upset. I hope that one day he will see that this was something I had to do for me and he will get past it. We have known each other for 8 years now and it would be a shame to lose a friendship but that will ultimately be his choice.

I am a truly fortunate person. I have found wonderful people to be a part of my life. I only hope that they think the same of me.

Well the kitchen has been cleaned and the oak cabinets look so nice! And as proof, look... I even put some food in the cupboards! Just a few things I had purchased and had been carrying around in the trunk.

Here are some more improvement pictures:

I put a few little things in the windowbox. And a picture on the mantle of the farmhouse where I grew up.
There is still so much to do, packing and moving. Tomorrow Alma is coming to help me load up things and get them to the house. Monday and Wednesday next week Amy is going to come help me pack, we'll take things there, unload and put away and then Friday the appliances will hopefully be delivered. Saturday the 20th Jolene, Fred and Tammy are going to help move the contents of the storage unit. Susan will be back from vacation and the entire week of the 22nd she is going to come over to help me pack and move the room before the movers come for the big furniture on the 26th.
Tomorrow I will see what is left to be done, if anything, for the repairman and if I can afford more I will do it. The shed and patio roof need to be done as soon as I can afford it.
What will appear as the post above this is something I need to say. Honest.

Progress

Susan and I went to the house tonight after our meeting. I thought we could have dinner in Oroville and see what had been done. It was too dark to take pictures of the landscaper's work but he got rid of the trees in back that were a problem and some of the pine tree. I have contacted my realtor to find out why the trash wasn't taken away and why not as much was done on the pine tree as I thought would be done. The overgrown grass and rambling things on the side of the house were gone and what an improvement! Anyway... look at that picture. Can you figure it out?

I thought there was going to be one row of tile above the tub. Instead Chris went all the way to the ceiling and will be putting the final row on which will contain 3 blue tiles spaced apart. This explains why he went and got the extra tile. He also has purchase the baseboard. So far he's changed the door knobs/dead bolts, hung lights and done all the tile and he really has done a lot. He wasn't working tonight but said he should be finished by the end of the week. If when I go he hasn't finished quite everything I will see if he can do the rest and it'll be worth the money. I am majorly impressed with the tile. My bathroom is going to be so much prettier than even I imagined!

Here are some pictures of the fan/lights that were put up and I think it's hard to see the light I had him put in the entry but it really is cute. Try these. I forgot and deleted all the pictures off my camera so for those of you who thought you would be seeing them on the camera, sorry.

The light on the left is in the diningroom. You can see the nice wood beam ceiling. The light on the right is in The Yarn Room. The last picture below is the entry way light fixture but, again, not sure how well you will be able to see it.

I will post pictures when I can. I think next time I will be at the house may not be until Friday. And at some point I have to start packing. When Susan is back from vacation we will do as much as we can, probably every night. Anyone wants to help I will gladly say yes. Here's the light:
